The enter key has the word enter on it

*I had just finished walking Val through key punching a receiving report into the system. There are only about six fields of information. We have already done this hundreds of times. She does not remember any aspect of any of it.

Me: alright. Now just hit enter.

Val: huh?

Me: Press Enter.

Val: I don’t understand.

Me: Press the Enter Key.

Val: I don’t understand.

Me: Press the Enter Key on the Keyboard.

*Val squints at the screen

Me: the enter key has the word ‘enter’ on it.

Val: huh?

Me: the enter key is the button on the keyboard with the word ‘enter’ on it.

Val: what’s that?

Me: they button on the keyboard with the word ‘enter’ on it.

Val: where is that?

*I point at the enter key on the keyboard

Me: this is the Enter Key. It has the word ‘Enter’ on it.

*val presses the enter key. She has already forgotten why she pressed it. I proceed to walk her through key punching the rest of the receiving reports into the system. I walk her through pulling up the total receipts loaded into the system for that ship for that month. I walk her through comparing them to that ships transmittal report for that month. She does not understand they are the same receiving reports listed on that transmittal report. It takes a lot of explaining. At over twenty ships, she had already done this over a hundred times over the last six months. Finally she remembers enough to complete it for the rest of the day.

A few days later…she does not remember any of it. Again!
